Reunited...and it feels so good!

So I gave up sweets for lent. You can read more about all that it entailed here.  I thought it was going to be pretty hard, but it surprisingly wasn't. At first I thought about it alot, and thought about how far away Easter was. But after the first week or so, I really didn't notice so much. In fact, it felt really good to have a reason to say no to eating stuff that I knew I didn't need and wasn't healthy for me. The last week and a half was a little bit tougher because I realized how soon I would be able to have chocolate and cookies and donuts and cake again, but I made it.

And then Sunday came, and my dear sweet husband woke me up with a delicious breakfast pastry that he brought to me in bed. And then there was easter candy, and cookies and cake, and it all tasted so good. And now at my house there is leftover desert from easter, and ALOT of easter candy. A.LOT. And I'm back to where I started over 6 weeks ago. I see it and I just can't help myself. My mouth waters just knowing that there is something sugary and sweet in my house and that I CAN eat it.  So I do.

What is wrong with me? Luckily for me, Easter and the end of my fast from sugary goodness happens to fall on a week when I am running 26 miles for my half marathon training. Any extra pounds I may have picked up due to Reese's eggs and Godiva chocolate will likely be melted away during my 12 mile run Saturday morning. But still, I am kind of disappointed with my lack of self control. So tomorrow I am going to not eat sweets for the day. I need to get back in the habit of practicing self control. It's amazing how quickly it left. Also, I'm sure it will probably make my long run on Saturday go better if I am fueling up on food that is good for me and going to give me energy.  But man do all those sweets taste good!

I am so impressed you made it the whole time! That is some serious will power, so don't give yourself too hard of a time for a little indulging. :)

Your running impresses me! When I think of you, I think of discipline!

I let all of our HS kids eat our candy. EVEN though I really like LOTS of it. I just figure if I unselfishly let them eat it then I won't be able to later.

(My mental attitude is not quite so gentle when I see them take a handful of Reese's, but I'm working on it!!)

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone!

Julie - Derek had his Bible study guys over on Monday and we left candy out so they could eat it - but Derek hid all of the Reese's eggs from them before hand! And we had so much candy that there was still lots left over after they were gone.
